My Family and Me....

This is a photo of me, my dad, Joe, and my stepmom, Jeannine, at their home outside of Franklin, NC.  My nickname for my stepmom is Marsh.  She's such a sweetie that when I first introduced her to people, I started calling her my not-very-wicked-at-all stepmother.  Then, it became my pushover-marshmallow stepmother, because she was such a nice person.  She would really laugh when I said that, so my nickname for her became Marsh.   I could tell you a really funny story about how she and my dad met.  The problem is that if  I did,  she would kill me!  Maybe someday, I'll put their email address on this page, and then all of you could write and ask her how she and Dad met!

I've been a real Daddy's Girl all my life.  My dad once characterized our relationship after I had become an adult, as, "She talks with me about everything, and then she goes and does what she wants!"  My response to him was, "Oh, yeah?  Wasn't that the way you brought me up??!!"  He just laughed and admitted guilt on that count.

I work as a Civil Rights Specialist for the Federal Transit Administration, an agency of the Department of Transportation.  I work in Washington, DC, and live in Alexandria, VA.

My hobbies are spending a heck of a lot of time on Compuserve in the Cats Forum, on AOL, and sharing messages with others on CINCARM, an Internet discussion group for people associated with the Catholic religious orders referred to as "Carmelites."  I've been a lay associate of the Carmelites for many years.  I also do research and writing on a French Carmelite saint, Saint Therese of Lisieux.  I wrote a Ph.D. dissertation on her writings in 1986.

I got juvenile arthritis when I was 14 years old.  Now, I have degenerative arthritis as a "leftover" of that and fibromyalgia.  I use a wheelchair outside of my apartment and at work.  Eventually, I'll have a "People with Disabilities" page that will include some type of outreach to the disability community to help give all of us another voice on the Web to express our concerns.
